SJ Records

SJ Records is a development opportunity for young artists and producers.

Each term, we accept up to three young artists to record their original music here at Shore Junction with a producer.

SJ Records is best suited to artists – usually solo acts or duos, though bands may also apply – who already have some original songs ready to record but have not yet released any music. We’ve worked with artists across a range of genres, including indie rock, acoustic singer-songwriter, pop, and classical.

If selected for SJ Records, you’ll come into SJ on a Wednesday afternoon / early evening each fortnight until the end of the school term. During that time, you’ll work in the studio to develop and track your song until it is ready to be mixed, mastered, and released on online platforms through SJ Records.

This is a great chance to gain experience in a studio environment and learn more about the recording process, including how recording software and tracking work, what it’s like to collaborate with a producer, and some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of making music. Once the track is recorded, there may also be opportunities to learn more about releasing music, including distribution, marketing, and putting together cover art and/or press images.

Sessions run on Wednesdays after school, from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.
